About Our Club
The Craig Henry Tennis Club is located in the Craig Henry Park and has 8 hard courts.
The lights are turned on at dusk from May’s opening date to September 30 and switch off automatically at 10 p.m. Our court monitors/attendants are responsible for turning the court lights on during their regularly scheduled shift (see the Contact Us page). We encourage our members to use the online court booking system (see the Login page) at all times to help the Executive determine peak times to assist in the scheduling of other activities such as tournaments and league play.
Please keep in mind that the lights-on function is dependent on both weather permitting and attendant show. If it’s raining for more than 30 minutes, the attendant leaves and does not turn on lights. If the attendant has not shown up for their shift, lights also will not be turned on. While the Club’s executive endeavors to provide coverage in these instances, we do not have the manpower to service individual requests. We kindly ask that you do NOT email info@craighenry.com with requests to turn the lights on in these cases.
You may continue to play during the daylight hours for as long as weather permits (usually first snowfall). From September 30 to Thanksgiving Day, when we have good weather (over 12 degrees at 6 pm and no rain forecast), the Club executive will attempt to extend the play season by scheduling volunteers to turn the lights on.
Club executive board: meet our team
The club is managed by a group of volunteers elected by the club AGM:
- Chris Gregory, President: club lead, attendant supervision, facilities, volunteer coordinator, NCTA/OTA liaison, coaching coordinator
- Kirsty Giles, Past President: accounting support, knowledge sharing
- Lorna Giles, Treasurer: finances, accounting, banking, payroll
- Adrian Costea, Director: registration support, website, newsletter
- Neil Leckett: Director: tech expert, webcam admin, and so much more
If you want to volunteer and join the club executive team, please let us know and we’ll guide you through the process. First you need to do some volunteer work with the club to demonstrate your ability and willingness.
Staff
The staff members are responsible for the day-to-day work at the club: club access monitoring, court cleaning, interacting with club members, and so on. This season, the attendants/club monitors are: Avi Kashyap, Luka Bosiljcic, Sofie Cultrera and Philip Kravchenko.
Our monitors are young people who are working hard to improve your tennis experience at the club. We appreciate their contribution. This is probably their most important job so far. Let's treat them with respect. We request members further respect our attendants and facilities by picking up after themselves.
We are always looking for good candidates for part-time monitor positions with the club. If you want to join us, please send your resume or bio profile to info@craighenrytennis.com.
Volunteers
We appreciate the help of the volunteers who make significant contributions to the Club, such as the morning group.
