Nights are getting colder, and the days are not as warm as they were, let's say, two weeks ago. This means that the end of the tennis season at our club is near. So, these are the end-of-season dates that our members need to be aware of:
Last day with attendants on site: September 30. Thereafter, the clubhouse will be closed and there will be no access to washrooms and the water fountain.
Last Round Robin day was September 25.
Last day the lights will be turned on after September 30, if one of the coaches is there in the evening: October 31. So please check the court bookings to see if courts are booked for lessons after dusk. Also, coaches will turn off the lights if nobody's playing when they're leaving the club. Please note that the club is paying the power bill and we really don't need the lights on if nobody's playing.
Last day with all nets on: to be determined, depending on the weather. We usually remove 3 nets at the beginning of November, and then gradually the remaining nets. Check the website for updates.
We would like to let you know that our club will host a series of OTA junior tournaments on August 18-19-20: the U14 and U18 Transition Tour, and U10. The tournament will impact the court space for members, as courts 1 to 4 will be booked for the tournament from Friday afternoon through Sunday. There will still be court space available for members, so book early to secure your court.
The Monday round robin is on Monday evenings, from 7 to 9 p.m., on courts 1 to 4. You will be playing multiple sets of doubles tennis with different partners. Show up a little before 7 p.m. and sign up with the attendant or volunteer on site. You will be assigned to a court. After each set or 30-minute interval, play stops and players gather on court 1 to be reassigned for the next set. The Monday round robin is a great opportunity to meet players of the same level, especially for new members.
There is also a round robin for beginners on Tuesdays, from 8 to 9 p.m., on courts 1 and 2. We plan to expand the court space if there is enough interest. So come out and play!
The 2023 club AGM is scheduled on June 22 at 6 p.m. in the community building that also serves as our clubhouse. This is the first club AGM after a hiatus of a couple of years caused by the COVID pandemic. Book the date and time in your calendar. The club AGM is a great opportunity to get insight into the club operations, the duties of our volunteer board members, the club financial situation, and many other areas of interest to members.
The AGM agenda is as follows:
Introduction of board members
Approval of financial statements for the year that ended on December 31, 2022
Election of directors (incumbents are re-elected, and new nominations are to be proposed for consideration)
Other business, as required
The club financial reports will be posted online at the begining of June. If you would like to volunteer and join the club board, please communicate your intention by June 8 by sending an email to email@example.com.
Hope to see you all at the AGM on June 22!
The Craig Henry Tennis Club is located in the Craig Henry Park and has 8 hard courts. The club is generally open from mid-May to the end of September and beyond, for as long as weather permits.
